Juan’s House

While driving along the southern Portuguese coast, Erika saw through the trees the rooftops of an odd structure. We turned around and wound our way up an obscure driveway to discover an abandoned mansion inhabited, we think, by a man named Juan. There was a vast language barrier, us knowing no Portuguese. We picked up that the house was being built by Argentinians, but someone died and it was never finished. Juan seemed to know quite a bit about the house. We surmised he might have been one of builders, or a neighbor, but he he was now residing there. He was quite proud of the place. He invited us in and was eager to show us around. There was what looked like an indoor pool and upstairs were two jetted tubs. All the floors were lovely marble.

It was a nice visit. He was quite gracious. It looks to have been an exotic place.
